Some of you can say that you’re grounded and know who you are. Some of you will think you know who you are while some of you are feeling lost in who you are. This is called IDENTITY. How much do you really know or think you know about your identity? There is only one way to be sure and that is to take everything back to the one that created you, that is your Father in heaven.
SEVERAL FACTORS MAKE US UP
There are several factors that can shape who we are and contribute to the identity that we build up throughout our lives. Our childhood, our environment, circumstances, and the people that we have around us. There are things that build up over time before we reach adulthood, we can end up living an identity that isn’t actually ours. Ending up living a life that wasn’t created for us. God has created us all with our own individual identities and purpose. Think of it like this . . .
There are billions of people on this one planet but yet not one fingerprint is the same. Share on XWe all have our own unique design, how amazing is that?
But if we live outside of the identity and purpose that God intended for us, it can lead us into sadness, depression and feeling unfulfilled. We are not able to live in the peace and joy that has been given to us through Jesus Christ dying* on the cross. (*Matthew 27:26)
THE VOID
The problem is when we aren’t getting that fulfilment from walking in our true identity and purpose, from our relationship with God, we end up looking for that fulfilment in other ways. Drugs, alcohol, sex, relationships, partying, overworking just to distract ourselves from dealing with what is really going on inside.
This becomes even more damaging and will take you down a dark path.
THE ENEMY OF YOUR IDENTITY
It is different for everybody but they all end up the same way. The enemy’s* (*1 Peter 5:8) job is to kill, steal and destroy. So if he can throw situations, events and people into your life to try and destroy you and distract you from keeping your eyes on God, he will do it! A thief won’t try to steal something that isn’t valuable, he will go for the diamond, he will go for the things of value.
This means that you are valuable, something worth remembering and holding onto. It doesn’t matter if you’re struggling with addictions, mental health issues, low self – esteem & confidence, loneliness, porn addiction . . . you can find freedom!
HOW DO I FIND MY IDENTITY?
Here is only one answer, to have a personal relationship with your creator, your Father (John 17:3)
He is the only one that knows why you are here, he is the only one that knows what you need. He’ll bring the right people around you, who’ll help and support you. Ones who’ll encourage you to grow. He is the only one that knows the people that you need to reach.
Allow the Holy Spirit (John 16:13) to guide you daily in truly finding your identity, your identity in Christ. Your identity isn’t in the things of your past because they don’t define you. It’s not in who the world says you are because that doesn’t define you! It’s not in the opinions, assumptions or judgements of others, they do not define you! It’s in who God says you are! That is what defines you, that is where you will find the fulfilment, joy and peace that you need.
